Monday Off!

Hi! As you can tell, I fortunately have this lovely Monday off! So excited about that 🙂 I hope all of you have off too.

This weekend, I decided on Friday I would get up and make it to a Body Pump class at the gym! I’ve missed Body Pump so much, I don’t know why I haven’t thought to go on a Saturday before. The class was awesome, I got a great lift in (although since it had been so long since the the last one, my weights weren’t as heavy). I missed group fitness so much! I totally realized this..I have been on so many solo runs, and workouts- it’s really starting to get BORING.

I woke up Sunday extremely sore, mostly from push-ups and bench pressing- not something I do often! Surprisingly enough even after the lunges and squats my legs weren’t hurting TOO badly. I did decided to take the day off Sunday, and am trying for my 6 mile long run today instead. The weather is about to get rediculously cold here this week (boo) so I may even have to suck it up and run on the treadmill this week. *sigh. Life is hard, I know.

Last week, my training didn’t go as planned, and I’m completely okay with it. It is what it is. Looking back, I totally think asking myself to run 4 times a week was a stretch. If I don’t get that 3rd shorter run in, I’ve decided its okay. I’ll be going totally off the feel of everything for the weeks. Sounds like a plan to me!

Turkey Day fun

Hello everyone! I am sorry for the absence (ha, if any of you have TRULY been missing me then good- missed you too 😉 ) but I was really, really enjoying my mini vacay and the time away from the computer and social media was a nice break. Very refreshing 🙂

I hope everyone had an amazing Turkey Day! I know I did, it was a good time with my family and I got to see Drew too which is aways a positive side of holidays with both of our jobs being at schools= nice breaks! (Fun fact: I even had yesterday off because in Pennsylvania, it was the first day of rifle season for hunting deer….haha yes. seriously.)

So anyways my Thanksgiving day started out with an extremely cold Turkey Trot 5k starting at my old elementary school! It was a brutal 27 degrees when we were headed there. My dad also went to the race with me.

Here we are racing 😉 (no sorry this was staged on my street- but still a fun picture!) Thanks mom!

The race was a good one and ended up being a really beautiful day out, you know, after you were numb, ha. The race unfortunately had a slight hiccup for me with another stupid side stitch at around the 2nd mile. UGH. one of those stabbed in the side gotta walk type of side stitch. Of course. I haven’t had a side stitch in all of my runs but of course it happens now. TYPICAL. Oh well. I still finished 26:51 so not too bad or far off my last. But soooo over the side stitches.

After this I was ready for turkey and lots of it! I helped my mom make a sweet potato casserole and and we had our pies ready for after!

I made the apple and mom made pumpkin! The apple turned out pretty well if I do say so myself 🙂 with ice cream of course!

Over the weekend I got to spend some quality time with Drew and took advantage of online shopping from the comfort of home. Perfect. No going out on Black Friday for this girl!

By Friday though, I was feeling some aches and pains in my knee and feet (as I so called “obnoxiously” pointed out to Drew…I mean I can’t help he’s an athletic trainer and is supposed to heal me, RIGHT!?) So I took the entire 2 days of no exercies besides walking around a little. It was the best decision I made for sure because yesterday I felt good and I had a nice run and tabata workout with squats, burpees, and sit ups and felt great! I’m definitely trying to take it easy right now and slowly build up my runs to get a nice base and lately I’ve been happy not going much over 3 miles, and doing some strength circuits in my basement.  I’m already starting to see improvement with my times in running so I’m pretty excited and trying to not overdo it! 🙂 woo!

  • How was your Thanksgiving Day?
  • Did you do Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping? I did and got some good deals admittedly for myself but some presents too 🙂

Hurricane day!

Well everyone I hope you all had a good weekend. My weekend got extended a little bit and because of Hurrican Sandy I will be at home today and most likely tomorrow considering things are supposed to get worse tonight and into Tuesday. At one point a town 30 minutes from me was supposed to get a direct hit and was even a trending topic on Twitter. Twitter makes everything serious. YIKES!

I’m at that little green dot…And that’s what we are dealing with this morning. The wind should be picking up by tonight…

So anyways, this weekend- I was supposed to run a 5k. It was nice because it was set up right in my town and easy to get to so I went and…..Cancelled. So great to get that notice before hand…but ohhhh well. I was excited to race so it was disappointing but what can you do? With all this I ended up losing motivation to run and decided to get on the trainer and watch Netflix instead- good choice I might say. (Side note: if you have Netflix start watching all the seasons of the TV show Rules of Engagement– it’s hilarious!)

Then I decided shopping was a good idea ..and then an even better idea was buying new shoes 🙂 PRETTY new shoes!

Brooks Pureflows! They had me at their color and then putting them on was even better. I feel like they are molded right to my foot! Can’t wait to take them for a spin. (OH, running guru, Alex– whatcha think!?) I definitely wish that the weather wouldn’t be so terrible because I would have loved to take them out for a nice run! (And no…not running in the rain… 🙂 )

Today is a much needed rest day– I spent 45 minutes on the indoor trainer Saturday and then an ab workout and played hockey for 3 hours Sunday (my team had NO subs either- ugh) and today my body hurts soooo very much. I may be popping in my Beach Babe DVD for the stretching session!

The rest of my hurricane day will be spent making pancakes…

Literally the best I’ve ever made. Adapted from Hollie’s recipe… ( I only added a packet of stevia and some agave for my sweetner part). Oh and I added a bunch of cinnamon because I LOVE it. Cocoa would also be an awesome add-in.

Eating apple crisp…

And preparing for possible power outage! Yikes- candles ready!

  • Are you affected by the hurricane today?

Twenty-four

The big day is here!

I am officially 24 at 8:14am today. Weird. 24??! Really? Every year goes faster and faster!

I’m lucky enough to get to spend my day with friends, family, and even more lucky to see Drew this weekend. Very excited for some fun! I plan to eat my weight in chips and salso and fro yo 🙂

This year I will try my best to:

Relax and enjoy, worrying about the little things in life doesn’t do any good!

-Remember that an extra slice of cake (or 2) won’t hurt anyone 🙂

-Be the best version of myself I can be…because of course- I am the only one of me!

Here’s to 24!

Fro-yo in hand OF COURSE!

Also my winner of my fun stuff giveaway isssss…

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Almond Flour Pancakes

Well..please excuse my absence lately…last week definitely got the best of me, from work to practice, to the job at the gym, by Thursday I was just completely exhausted, and Friday was a 14 hour work day, unfortunately. (i’ll stop whining now, promise). On the upside of the exhaustion, my Field hockey team I coach had a night game and had a big win! YAY! (Besides the LATE night).

My job is going well! I’m still really liking everything.. This coming week is the first 5 day week of school..if any of you understand how I act children act by Thursday in school you know how that goes. Friday was one LONG day, haha, but they’re sweet & hilarious. Don’t worry one day I plan on an “Overheard in Kindergarten” post….. Also, if I had a dime for every shoe I’ve tied -I’d be rich.

Fitness wise I didn’t go to the gym every morning last week- one day I apparently had 2 alarms set that I don’t remember turning off and going back to sleep. Oh well- sometimes sleep is a winner over working out if you need it! Another day my dad and I did a bike ride in the morning. This would totally be better if it would get light outside before 6:20am 😦 this means only time for a 40 minute ride…still better than none at all but now that I have actually put miles on my bike (somewhere around 600 miles this year!!…*proud) that feels so short. Reason #4billion I need an indoor trainer.

Yesterday was my first day off in literally 2 weeks and I had an awesome day at playing field hockey! My favorite physical activity of all! My team did okay, we actually didn’t have a goalie so that made things difficult haha but we did score and I scored 2 goals wahoo! … And now I’m sore. So. Sore. Getting in shape for stop and start kind of game is difficult unless you’re playing it all the time! I’ve never felt so out of shape haha ugh. Thank god I’m doing lifting for my back today..everything else would not work!

So between all of that stuff I had time to create an amazing almond flour Pancake recipe! 🙂 My paleo and gluten free friends try it out!

This photo food collage makes me feel like such a foodie blogger! 😉

Recipe (adapted from Delighted Momma blog) :

  • 3/4 cup Almond meal
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TBSP Water
  • I packet Stevia or sweetner of choice
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon (or a bit more!)

This made me two nice size pancakes that I topped with a agave nectar and some more cinnamon. These are very delicious if you love almond because it really does taste like almonds (duhhhh, i know). I had these before a bike ride and they were the perfect fuel! I also pondered making a bunch of them and throwing them in the fridge for breakfasts throughout the week! Delish!

  • Would you try these pancakes?
