Hurricane day!

Well everyone I hope you all had a good weekend. My weekend got extended a little bit and because of Hurrican Sandy I will be at home today and most likely tomorrow considering things are supposed to get worse tonight and into Tuesday. At one point a town 30 minutes from me was supposed to get a direct hit and was even a trending topic on Twitter. Twitter makes everything serious. YIKES!

I’m at that little green dot…And that’s what we are dealing with this morning. The wind should be picking up by tonight…

So anyways, this weekend- I was supposed to run a 5k. It was nice because it was set up right in my town and easy to get to so I went and…..Cancelled. So great to get that notice before hand…but ohhhh well. I was excited to race so it was disappointing but what can you do? With all this I ended up losing motivation to run and decided to get on the trainer and watch Netflix instead- good choice I might say. (Side note: if you have Netflix start watching all the seasons of the TV show Rules of Engagement– it’s hilarious!)

Then I decided shopping was a good idea ..and then an even better idea was buying new shoes πŸ™‚ PRETTY new shoes!

Brooks Pureflows! They had me at their color and then putting them on was even better. I feel like they are molded right to my foot! Can’t wait to take them for a spin. (OH, running guru, Alex– whatcha think!?) I definitely wish that the weather wouldn’t be so terrible because I would have loved to take them out for a nice run! (And no…not running in the rain… πŸ™‚ )

Today is a much needed rest day– I spent 45 minutes on the indoor trainer Saturday and then an ab workout and played hockey for 3 hours Sunday (my team had NO subs either- ugh) and today my body hurts soooo very much. I may be popping in my Beach Babe DVD for the stretching session!

The rest of my hurricane day will be spent making pancakes…

Literally the best I’ve ever made. Adapted from Hollie’s recipe… ( I only added a packet of stevia and some agave for my sweetner part). Oh and I added a bunch of cinnamon because I LOVE it. Cocoa would also be an awesome add-in.

Eating apple crisp…

And preparing for possible power outage! Yikes- candles ready!

High Five Friday!

Ah my frist High Five Friday! I’ve been wanting to put this thing together for a while now, because Meg really make me want to pass on high fives to all of you wonderful people! πŸ™‚

This week I am giving myself a high five for completing my 4th duathlon! We all know it didn’t go that well for me, but I did complete it and am already moving on to the next one!

And now I’m gonna give out my high fives all over the place!

To Meg: for creating High Five Friday, and to her for being featured at her school for being a leader! Girl you display fine quality leadership skills through your blog and I bet even more in person! Way to go πŸ™‚ Go read more about her here.Β

To Alex: for not taking herself to seriously when she talks about her grandma ways, baking skills, and the fact that she doesn’t think her food is pretty. Her hilarious sarcasm and point of view makes me love her more each time I read her blog! Her little reminders on things we all think make my day! πŸ™‚

To Megan for celebrating her “Runniversary!” This girl rocks and has seriously accomplished SO MUCH in a year. She inspired me to look back on my own year and see what I’ve accomplished.

To Jessie for her awesome week of running! And her reminder that it’s the little things in life πŸ™‚

To Heidi for a successful move into her house AND its her birthday today! Happy birthday and high five!

To Nikki for mixing it up and going to Zumba for the first time in a while! It’s always fun to do something new!

  • And lastly- High fives to all of you for reading…and PLEASE share with me why you are giving YOURSELF a high five this week πŸ™‚

Last Things Thursday

Here are some of the last things for me this week!

1. Last Song on the iPod:

I used to never listen to Pandora and now I’ve become obsessed! Specifically with Lee Brice Station. Love him.

2. Last workout:

I lifted yesterday arms & abs from the live fit trainer and then did 20 minutes of intervals on the stationary bike.

3. Last amazing food find:

I’ve been dying to have these and my favorite grocery store FINALLY sells them! I was so excited so now I basically add it to everything! It’s definitely been myΒ favorite add in to shakes. It’s awesome in the pudding shakes and great when added to froyo shakes also πŸ™‚

4. Latest hair style

I’m glad after 23 years I’ve finally figured out how to do my hair some other way. I really just taught myself how to french braid this year. Better late than never!

5. Last Meal

Chiliiiiii! and cornbread! Noms…mom makes the best! oh and of course i gotta cover it in cheese! πŸ™‚

  • What are some of your last things this week?
  • Do you use Pandora? Favorite station? I need ideas πŸ™‚

Shutting my brain off!

Hi everyone… πŸ™‚ Wednesday woo!

So, I’ve been getting up for my workouts this week no problem! Which I’m very excited about. However, the one thing I am having issues with this week is being absolutely exhausted and ready for bed at 9pm and not being able to turn my brain OFF.

This is making me exhausted! I feel like once I lay down I think about a million things and fidget and it takes me so much longer to fall asleep. I mean, once I’m asleep I’m golden, but relaxing before bed has be TOUGH! I am constantly thinking of the 4 million things I have to do tomorrow. I’m sure many, many of you feel the exact same way. My brain hurts. Seriously.

So because of this I’m sure you’ve noticed I just will not be blogging as much and I’m sure you’re all okay with that haha. I just hate forcing blog posts when I”m tired and cranky and honestly have nothing to talk about. I’d rather write some posts that actually have content (okay..I pretty much always ramble) than some just to write them. Sometimes my only time for myself is at the end of the day, besides at the gym.

Speaking of gym..lifting has been awesome. If I feel confident enough I will update you on my progress πŸ˜‰ The only thing is I don’t have a lot of time to do cardio so I’ve been missing out the past few days! I hate when I don’t get some form of it in. When I do have time I’ve been doing the stair mill on intervals to get the most bang for my buck!

ANYWAYS, back to the main point. I am hoping that my routine settles in soon and I can somehow manage to relax my brain at night time. Meditation perhaps? Yoga?? I would love to find another yoga DVD that is more ‘zen’ like since my Jillian DVD is more of a workout. Although it has to be short so I can hold my concentration ha!

  • Do you have trouble shutting your brain off at night?

Preparing for the week

I don’t know about you- but I am so, so, so thankful for this extra day this weekend. I totally needed every ounce of this day to get ready for this upcoming week. Last week was just crazy learning my new routine and schedule and all of it without working at the gym because of shut down week for maintenance. Adding that into my week again means planning ahead has now become my best friend.

Have I mentioned before that I’m a go with the flow, laid back, as opposite of Type-A personality, person as you can get? Planning can sometimes be hard for me- but with how my schedule is I have to do it or I’ll probably lose my mind.

First for this month I made a schedule of all my work schedules (that I know of) and practice and game times for Field Hockey. It was seriously time consuming putting together 3 schedules BUT I can now put it all together and actually make sense of it. Sweet.

Organization people! Blue = school job, yellow = Field hockey Red = gym job

So, that was one step in making my weeks easier to follow along with…I’ll also have to make sure I schedule in my times for working out. I’ve decided that since at times I’ll be working at my gym at night I will just stay and do my workouts then. No sense in going in twice when gas prices are the way they are… (ugh).

One last huge thing to me that definitely has to be planned out is for FOOD!Β My most favorite thing…

Sunday has become a major food prep day. I got to the grocery store today and got a ton of fruit to bring…grapes have been super convenient!

I cooked chicken breasts for salads

And got lettuce, carrots and green peppers cut up… and then I bought a lot of peanut butter of course πŸ™‚ oh and hardboiled eggs are a plus!

I’ve been eating a lot at my lunch time because most of the time it has to hold me over until after practice is over. I’m not that upset about eating a ton πŸ™‚

These are thing things that help me get ready for the week…mostly so that I don’t feel like ripping my hair out because I didn’t get my lunch already packed and also so I try and stay on the healthy train and don’t make bad choices because they’re so much more convenient (cause they so are!). I mean, of course, I usually throw in a dark chocolate square because it’s necessary πŸ™‚

  • Do you plan ahead for your weeks or is go with the flow through the week?
  • Do you meal prep on the weekends?
