4 Diamonds 5k Recap

Hello everyone- hope you are awake on this Monday morning- who am I kidding- I’m still half asleep. This is a given. Why are mornings so hard???

Well Saturday morning I ranu a 5k that was a part of my mom’s school that she teaches at fundraiser. It raised money for the 4 diamonds Foundation for pediatric cancer. My mom was participating with a group at her school called Sole Sisters (similiar to Girls on the Run), and my Dad and I were running in it.

Unfortunately no pictures were taken by myself.. oops. Completely forgot and was a bad blogger on that one, but it being a local race everyone there was someone I knew somehow and by the time you stopped and talked to everyone it was pretty much time to start the race. So anyways- the race was pretty much flat and fast, with no major inclines like my last 5k!

It was a quite a chilly start that morning, cloudy and around 40 degrees. I was in my cold weather tights, long sleeve shirt and Oiselle singlet of course. One thing I knew about this 5k was the fact that I definitely started my first mile way to fast for myself. I didn’t run with my phone or anything besides a watch and there weren’t any mile markers until you reached the 2nd mile, so I didn’t know where I was at anyways. between miles approx 1-2 we went up a slight incline, nothing major but I felt myself hit that wall where I said something like, “Oh, s***! That was way to fast.”whoops! I felt myself slow down and bit and catch my breath a little more and finally was able to shake it off and feel like I could move again. At mile 2 the volunteer was yelling out the time and I was at 17:07 which was a decent time and doing the math I could probably get a time I would be happy with. The run turned back at this point and I would finish where I started. Even better was the fact that the rest of the race was downhill! Me LIKE πŸ˜‰

I felt good at this point and even caught a Sole Sisters participant with half and mile left and I told her we could run together and finish it out..that is until she left me in the dust! haha once she started cruising I told her to keep going. Speedy little gal she was!

My final time for this which is not official and I am not positive was 26:40 when I crossed the line. A whole minute faster than my last (although that was a tougher course)….but I’ll take it! πŸ™‚ did i mention my dad ran a speedy 23:30!? that man is unbelievable… I did not get my running skills from him apparently haha. The 5k being what it was, a benefit for cancer- wasn’t as serious as most. There wasn’t even chip timing! It was a good old fashioned 5k, check this out!

All and all a great even and I’ll keep running and working on it. Btw wore the beloved Brooks for the first time in a race and LOVED them! My calves may be a bit sore from getting used to them and being flat but I really like how responsive they are. I definitely recommend them!

High Five Friday!

Ah my frist High Five Friday! I’ve been wanting to put this thing together for a while now, because Meg really make me want to pass on high fives to all of you wonderful people! πŸ™‚

This week I am giving myself a high five for completing my 4th duathlon! We all know it didn’t go that well for me, but I did complete it and am already moving on to the next one!

Weekend Recap

Helloooo! I hope you’re all well! I, as much as I love fall…when the season changes like this my sinuses and allergies go haywire. so that’s me now. I wouldn’t say “I’m sick” butttt I don’t feel great.

Anyways…as I said yesterday Drew and I got to spend some time together this weekend. YAY!

I wasn’t the only one excited Drew came to visit!

 

I caught this moment in the act. Izzy especially loves if you give her space to cuddle next to you!

Saturday we did a brick workout to help prepare us for the race on Saturday! We all have been crazy busy and training for all us hasn’t been top priority (with both our new jobs and routines) we decided to squeeze it all together πŸ™‚

 

 

Obviously preparing and very serious. Also I look very tall. I am not.

We did about 10 miles followed by a mile run. We threw some kettle bell squats and swings in there and called it a night. Hey- that’s obviously how we enjoy on Saturdays- we are so cool. πŸ™‚ I felt good during the training…I was pushing it cause I was obviously behind and trying to catch Drew the entire time. (Kinda competitive, what can I say). I feel like my training throughout the summer will keep me in the race even if my recent training hasn’t been as serious. I definitely wasn’t on the bike as much last year and I held my own! I am just hoping to beat my time from last year.

 

Sunday I had field hockey all day so Drew came along to watch and support moi of course! Somehow on the way home we decided pizza was needed and found a place called Iggies in Baltimore for some great pizza. Very organic and natural- I’ll take it.

 

Their pizza names were ones we couldn’t really say but very different than the usual so it was pretty cool. We asked for pepperoni and the girl told us it wasn’t exactly pepperoni but better..she was right! No clue what it was called however…

 

So if you are ever in Baltimore- Iggies is a great place to go!

Last Things Thursday

Here are some of the last things for me this week!

1. Last Song on the iPod:

 

I used to never listen to Pandora and now I’ve become obsessed! Specifically with Lee Brice Station. Love him.

2. Last workout:

 

I lifted yesterday arms & abs from the live fit trainer and then did 20 minutes of intervals on the stationary bike.

3. Last amazing food find:

 

I’ve been dying to have these and my favorite grocery store FINALLY sells them! I was so excited so now I basically add it to everything! It’s definitely been myΒ favorite add in to shakes. It’s awesome in the pudding shakes and great when added to froyo shakes also πŸ™‚

4. Latest hair style

I’m glad after 23 years I’ve finally figured out how to do my hair some other way. I really just taught myself how to french braid this year. Better late than never!

5. Last Meal

 

Chiliiiiii! and cornbread! Noms…mom makes the best! oh and of course i gotta cover it in cheese! πŸ™‚

Shutting my brain off!

Hi everyone… πŸ™‚ Wednesday woo!

So, I’ve been getting up for my workouts this week no problem! Which I’m very excited about. However, the one thing I am having issues with this week is being absolutely exhausted and ready for bed at 9pm and not being able to turn my brain OFF.

This is making me exhausted! I feel like once I lay down I think about a million things and fidget and it takes me so much longer to fall asleep. I mean, once I’m asleep I’m golden, but relaxing before bed has be TOUGH! I am constantly thinking of the 4 million things I have to do tomorrow. I’m sure many, many of you feel the exact same way. My brain hurts. Seriously.

So because of this I’m sure you’ve noticed I just will not be blogging as much and I’m sure you’re all okay with that haha. I just hate forcing blog posts when I”m tired and cranky and honestly have nothing to talk about. I’d rather write some posts that actually have content (okay..I pretty much always ramble) than some just to write them. Sometimes my only time for myself is at the end of the day, besides at the gym.

 

Speaking of gym..lifting has been awesome. If I feel confident enough I will update you on my progress πŸ˜‰ The only thing is I don’t have a lot of time to do cardio so I’ve been missing out the past few days! I hate when I don’t get some form of it in. When I do have time I’ve been doing the stair mill on intervals to get the most bang for my buck!

 

ANYWAYS, back to the main point. I am hoping that my routine settles in soon and I can somehow manage to relax my brain at night time. Meditation perhaps? Yoga?? I would love to find another yoga DVD that is more ‘zen’ like since my Jillian DVD is more of a workout. Although it has to be short so I can hold my concentration ha!
