Last Things Thursday: Holiday Edition

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great Christmas! My Christmas was awesome and I got to spend a lot of time with family that I don’t get to see too often. We also got snowed in an extra day and that actually turned out to be great because we got extra time to relax and hang out.

This last things Thursday coming at you Holiday Style!

1. Last Workout

My dad and I were able to go to the YMCA since we belong to our one at home and they have a ‘Y away from Home’ program; meaning gym fo’ FREE! The day before, on Christmas, my dad and I went for a great run, in his super hilly hometown. Much hillier than I’m used to- but it was a really good run.

2. Last New Toy

Well if you follow me on Instagram you may know my new toy which I LOVE:

I got the Garmin Forerunner 10! This thing was awesome to take a run with. I like my Nike App but it could be spotty and also I don’t always want to listen to music on my runs. Mostly for safety reasons and the fact that lots of time I’m on back roads. (And maybe the time I was chased by 4 different dogs of different running routes…ugh).

3. Sweet Treats

Well not that this is even all of it. Most if my diet was sweet treats haha. Not complaining! These are just some of the cookies…

4. New running clothes. Run to Oiselle and order their clothes to get you through the rest of the winter and early spring running season! Seriously they are flattering and so functional. thumb holes! Pockets galore!

I got a stripey top..

And run delicious and clearly vest. The run delicious is so cute and has a nice pocket on the side. I also could totally get away with wearing this to work. The clearly vest is fun and has pockets galore. I can also wear it for running or the bike, WIN!

5. Book read

I just started to read Chrissie Wellingtons memoir which is really good to hear about her story to hear about her journey to Ironmans. The fact that she didn’t ever really intend to be one blows my mind. She accidentally ran a 3:00 London Marathon and realized she was good at endurance sports… Couple years later she was World Ironman Champion! She also had a very, very long struggle with an eating disorder which was interesting to hear about. I recommend it πŸ™‚

6. The weather… Snowy!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you and yours! I’m currently in the mountains of western PA with my family eating crazy amounts of ham and the best mac and cheese on earth made by my grandma. And of course cookies galore. πŸ™‚ This is probably my most favorite place to be during the holidays. Drew and I got to spend the weekend together at least and did our own little Christmas together. I got an amazing gift which I love πŸ™‚ I mean, of course the beat part being that we could see each other for a few days uninterrupted!

Check out Erica Sara for some amazing necklace ideas! Thanks Drew, you’re the best!

I got Drew some cycling essentials such as a new Road ID and cycling socks that have sharks on them!

Exercise wise, I’ve spent a lot of time on the indoor trainer lately, which with the distraction of TV and Netflix I don’t mind. Wish I could say the same about the treadmill, ew!

I also have been doing some great Tabata work outs at the gym mostly consisting of old school things. One workout consisted of 150 jump ropes, 25 sit ups, 10 push ups- then 120 jump ropes, 20 sit ups, 10 push ups…. Working its way down. Intense and so sore the next day!

(Oh PS I got toe covers as well so hopefully I can brave the chilly weather and get outside and bike too!)

I fit in some time before the trip so that I could rest up my legs and feet to run while at my grandmothers.

Being in the mountains I’ll be having what looks to be somewhat of a white Christmas! It snowed on the way here and will probably do the same in the next few days.

My dad and I will hopefully go on our traditional Christmas Day run and the lounge around. Another of my favorite holiday traditions!

I hope you have a great time with your friends and family over the next few days and take time to unwind and relax.

What’s your favorite part about the holidays?

Turkey Day fun

Hello everyone! I am sorry for the absence (ha, if any of you have TRULY been missing me then good- missed you too πŸ˜‰ ) but I was really, really enjoying my mini vacay and the time away from the computer and social media was a nice break. Very refreshing πŸ™‚

I hope everyone had an amazing Turkey Day! I know I did, it was a good time with my family and I got to see Drew too which is aways a positive side of holidays with both of our jobs being at schools= nice breaks! (Fun fact: I even had yesterday off because in Pennsylvania, it was the first day of rifle season for hunting deer….haha yes. seriously.)

So anyways my Thanksgiving day started out with an extremely cold Turkey Trot 5k starting at my old elementary school! It was a brutal 27 degrees when we were headed there. My dad also went to the race with me.

Here we are racing πŸ˜‰ (no sorry this was staged on my street- but still a fun picture!) Thanks mom!

The race was a good one and ended up being a really beautiful day out, you know, after you were numb, ha. The race unfortunately had a slight hiccup for me with another stupid side stitch at around the 2nd mile. UGH. one of those stabbed in the side gotta walk type of side stitch. Of course. I haven’t had a side stitch in all of my runs but of course it happens now. TYPICAL. Oh well. I still finished 26:51 so not too bad or far off my last. But soooo over the side stitches.

After this I was ready for turkey and lots of it! I helped my mom make a sweet potato casserole and and we had our pies ready for after!

I made the apple and mom made pumpkin! The apple turned out pretty well if I do say so myself πŸ™‚ with ice cream of course!

Over the weekend I got to spend some quality time with Drew and took advantage of online shopping from the comfort of home. Perfect. No going out on Black Friday for this girl!

By Friday though, I was feeling some aches and pains in my knee and feet (as I so called “obnoxiously” pointed out to Drew…I mean I can’t help he’s an athletic trainer and is supposed to heal me, RIGHT!?) So I took the entire 2 days of no exercies besides walking around a little. It was the best decision I made for sure because yesterday I felt good and I had a nice run and tabata workout with squats, burpees, and sit ups and felt great! I’m definitely trying to take it easy right now and slowly build up my runs to get a nice base and lately I’ve been happy not going much over 3 miles, and doing some strength circuits in my basement. Β I’m already starting to see improvement with my times in running so I’m pretty excited and trying to not overdo it! πŸ™‚ woo!

  • How was your Thanksgiving Day?
  • Did you do Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping? I did and got some good deals admittedly for myself but some presents too πŸ™‚

Weekend Recap

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I had a busy one as usual. I swear I don’t know the word relax of just hang out lol. It just doesn’t happen… One day!

Friday was spent working and then getting my class reunion together. I forgot to take pictures of the reunion but one of my friends did… But haven’t seen then yet so I got nothing, sorry. It was okay. After it was over a lot of us went out to a local restaurant/bar and hung out some more.

I didn’t stay out long cause I had to get up super early to coach a scrimmage which we won! Yay! πŸ™‚ we have some work to do but we did fairly well for the first one! After that was done I rushed to work- boo. For the rest of the night.

However, Sunday was the real excitement!! I got up super early and me and my mom took a road trip to see Drew!!

Drew just moved last week 9 miles from the beach in Maryland. Yes. Seriously… Who lives like that?? But we went to visit since its been about 2 weeks since I’ve seen him (wah) and hung out for the day. His new place is adorable and is perfect for him. We just hung out for a while becore going to explore his new place of work which is also awesome! And then we went to Applebees and I got my favorite salad on earth!!

Oriental chicken salad to be exact! Soooo good!

We sent shopping at the little outlets that were there. I really mean little, but found some things!

We had fun around and then had to head home after that. It’s a good 3 and a half hour drive with out stopping so it wasn’t a lot of time there unfortunately. But first I tormented Drew with a picture.

He loves taking pictures! But anyways- we headed home and hit some traffic and then my mom couldn’t remember what exit to take so we ended up going to far west – like all of a sudden we saw sign “Welcome to Washington DC” oops. And so then we needed to turn around. Fun times.. Should have just stopped to see this girl.

But it was like 11 and I was tired and cranky from driving! Someday πŸ™‚

So there was my busy weekend! Back to a busy work schedule and coaching this week! Needless to say the exercise was just a lot of walking this weekend! My body did need a rest from all the living I did this week that it’s not used to.. Back at the live fit trainer this week!

what did you do this weekend?

Back again!

Hi everyone…I know I’ve said it before but I’m back! for serious this time.

The beach was absolutely awesome last week! I mean how could it not be right? It’s the beach. Relaxation, beach reading, good food, and biking! We had pretty good weather the entire time we were there…only one day of super hot stuff going on, not like my other time at the beach this summer (which of course was through the hottest 10 days in a row on record).

This was one of our nicest days there. Beautiful blue skies!

Well at the beach you KNOW I rode my bike a bunch πŸ™‚ On Monday Drew, his dad, and I set out for a bike ride in the afternoon that ended up being about 18 miles. It was the afternoon and a little too hot for us to go our real long and still make it to the beach for a little so we didn’t do too long of one. Unfortuantely the way we went this time required a lot of stopping through traffic lights through one town, which got kinda irritating but not too bad of a ride all together.

Tuesday we went out for a 27 mile ride! Which was really good. it’s always nice to go out and bike with others- coming home and biking by myself I realized how much harder it is to make myself stay out there.

Wednesday we went to a little farmers market in town which was really cute and fun and lots of neat homemade food and crafts. I LOVE food.

and especially this doughnut from The Fractured Prune- Cherry, Chocolate, Coconut πŸ™‚

So that morning we skipped the bike ride in order to do that, eat lunch, and spend some quality time at the beach!

After the beach this day Β went out and did something crazy- I RAN. Yes- that’s it. I just ran. No biking involved…I know, this is pretty much unheard of for me lately, but since I didn’t bike that day and haven’t just done a solo run in a while I figured I would try it out. Well- let’s just say that cycling and running- although both cardiovascular exercises….dont exactly translate. My legs were pretty tired from the day before I’ll admit but the whole 2 miles I kind of struggled through. I made a goal to get them in under 20 minutes which I did by 10 seconds but not a great run. Getting back into it is HARD and the next day my legs were KILLING me. Not fun. But it will only get better correct? Spending so much time on my bike has made my foot really happy! which is AWESOME, because I haven’t had any pain and running didn’t hurt! This is probably the first time in 2 years where my foot has felt good for a long period of time. That calls for celebration!

Later on that night Drew and I played mini golf…and I won πŸ˜‰

That was my last night there, so it was a great time and of course FroYo came after- although I ate it before a picture. oops πŸ˜‰

The next day even thought I was crazy sore I woke up and Drew and I did a decent 22 mile ride before heading to the beach for the rest of the day. After the beach I packed and had to come back home so I could get back to work, which I did all weekend and today. Β Rude.Β

So basically, summary: I love the beach and always wonder, why do I ever leave? Do any of you wonder that after a vacation?

And fitness wise what I learned this week: Taking time off from running totally kills when you start again. However, breathing wise I felt good because I think my cardio is good from biking, but getting the legs and arms into the “swing” of things is tough after time off. Boo.

But also: CyclingΒ is awesome, and I love it. I feel like I’m getting better with every ride. Working to stay peddling the whole time is hard sometimes especially after a tough climb but there’s something about it that keeps me hooked πŸ™‚

  • So anyways- you guys, what’s up with you? Any new fitness accomplishments? or any in general?
