Last Workout:

It was supposed to be a 4 mile run last night butttt I decided against it. I was tired, my body was tired and in favor of a crazy circuit workout this morning at 6am, I said heck with it and decided to not run. I’ll be running Friday and Saturday instead!

Last Meal

Spaghetti and Meatballssss. I’ll never get sick of that for a meal, so glad there’s leftovers for lunch!

(Last) New Show I Love

images

Did I ever tell you how much I love Netflix? Well, I do. I have found so many awesome shows on there. My new one is Once Upon a Time, I’m loving it. It’s so clever, and lots of characters with crazy stories and twists. If you don’t know it’s about a town where all the characters are from Fairy Tales but living in modern times and they don’t KNOW they are a fairy tale character. It’s really interesting. Do watch 🙂

Last Snack

Lately I’ve been obsessed with Cinnamon Toast. I love it so much. I really have to stop myself from eating like 5 slices at a time. Life is hard.

My sweeties snuggled up in my bed. They don’t like to share with me. Rude.

Last Things Thursday: Holiday Edition

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great Christmas! My Christmas was awesome and I got to spend a lot of time with family that I don’t get to see too often. We also got snowed in an extra day and that actually turned out to be great because we got extra time to relax and hang out.

This last things Thursday coming at you Holiday Style!

1. Last Workout

My dad and I were able to go to the YMCA since we belong to our one at home and they have a ‘Y away from Home’ program; meaning gym fo’ FREE! The day before, on Christmas, my dad and I went for a great run, in his super hilly hometown. Much hillier than I’m used to- but it was a really good run.

2. Last New Toy

Well if you follow me on Instagram you may know my new toy which I LOVE:

I got the Garmin Forerunner 10! This thing was awesome to take a run with. I like my Nike App but it could be spotty and also I don’t always want to listen to music on my runs. Mostly for safety reasons and the fact that lots of time I’m on back roads. (And maybe the time I was chased by 4 different dogs of different running routes…ugh).

3. Sweet Treats

Well not that this is even all of it. Most if my diet was sweet treats haha. Not complaining! These are just some of the cookies…

4. New running clothes. Run to Oiselle and order their clothes to get you through the rest of the winter and early spring running season! Seriously they are flattering and so functional. thumb holes! Pockets galore!

I got a stripey top..

And run delicious and clearly vest. The run delicious is so cute and has a nice pocket on the side. I also could totally get away with wearing this to work. The clearly vest is fun and has pockets galore. I can also wear it for running or the bike, WIN!

5. Book read

I just started to read Chrissie Wellingtons memoir which is really good to hear about her story to hear about her journey to Ironmans. The fact that she didn’t ever really intend to be one blows my mind. She accidentally ran a 3:00 London Marathon and realized she was good at endurance sports… Couple years later she was World Ironman Champion! She also had a very, very long struggle with an eating disorder which was interesting to hear about. I recommend it 🙂

6. The weather… Snowy!

Almond Flour Pancakes

Well..please excuse my absence lately…last week definitely got the best of me, from work to practice, to the job at the gym, by Thursday I was just completely exhausted, and Friday was a 14 hour work day, unfortunately. (i’ll stop whining now, promise). On the upside of the exhaustion, my Field hockey team I coach had a night game and had a big win! YAY! (Besides the LATE night).

My job is going well! I’m still really liking everything.. This coming week is the first 5 day week of school..if any of you understand how I act children act by Thursday in school you know how that goes. Friday was one LONG day, haha, but they’re sweet & hilarious. Don’t worry one day I plan on an “Overheard in Kindergarten” post….. Also, if I had a dime for every shoe I’ve tied -I’d be rich.

Fitness wise I didn’t go to the gym every morning last week- one day I apparently had 2 alarms set that I don’t remember turning off and going back to sleep. Oh well- sometimes sleep is a winner over working out if you need it! Another day my dad and I did a bike ride in the morning. This would totally be better if it would get light outside before 6:20am 😦 this means only time for a 40 minute ride…still better than none at all but now that I have actually put miles on my bike (somewhere around 600 miles this year!!…*proud) that feels so short. Reason #4billion I need an indoor trainer.

Yesterday was my first day off in literally 2 weeks and I had an awesome day at playing field hockey! My favorite physical activity of all! My team did okay, we actually didn’t have a goalie so that made things difficult haha but we did score and I scored 2 goals wahoo! … And now I’m sore. So. Sore. Getting in shape for stop and start kind of game is difficult unless you’re playing it all the time! I’ve never felt so out of shape haha ugh. Thank god I’m doing lifting for my back today..everything else would not work!

So between all of that stuff I had time to create an amazing almond flour Pancake recipe! 🙂 My paleo and gluten free friends try it out!

This photo food collage makes me feel like such a foodie blogger! 😉

Recipe (adapted from Delighted Momma blog) :

  • 3/4 cup Almond meal
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TBSP Water
  • I packet Stevia or sweetner of choice
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon (or a bit more!)

This made me two nice size pancakes that I topped with a agave nectar and some more cinnamon. These are very delicious if you love almond because it really does taste like almonds (duhhhh, i know). I had these before a bike ride and they were the perfect fuel! I also pondered making a bunch of them and throwing them in the fridge for breakfasts throughout the week! Delish!

  • Would you try these pancakes?

Preparing for the week

I don’t know about you- but I am so, so, so thankful for this extra day this weekend. I totally needed every ounce of this day to get ready for this upcoming week. Last week was just crazy learning my new routine and schedule and all of it without working at the gym because of shut down week for maintenance. Adding that into my week again means planning ahead has now become my best friend.

Have I mentioned before that I’m a go with the flow, laid back, as opposite of Type-A personality, person as you can get? Planning can sometimes be hard for me- but with how my schedule is I have to do it or I’ll probably lose my mind.

First for this month I made a schedule of all my work schedules (that I know of) and practice and game times for Field Hockey. It was seriously time consuming putting together 3 schedules BUT I can now put it all together and actually make sense of it. Sweet.

Organization people! Blue = school job, yellow = Field hockey Red = gym job

So, that was one step in making my weeks easier to follow along with…I’ll also have to make sure I schedule in my times for working out. I’ve decided that since at times I’ll be working at my gym at night I will just stay and do my workouts then. No sense in going in twice when gas prices are the way they are… (ugh).

One last huge thing to me that definitely has to be planned out is for FOOD! My most favorite thing…

Sunday has become a major food prep day. I got to the grocery store today and got a ton of fruit to bring…grapes have been super convenient!

I cooked chicken breasts for salads

And got lettuce, carrots and green peppers cut up… and then I bought a lot of peanut butter of course 🙂 oh and hardboiled eggs are a plus!

I’ve been eating a lot at my lunch time because most of the time it has to hold me over until after practice is over. I’m not that upset about eating a ton 🙂

These are thing things that help me get ready for the week…mostly so that I don’t feel like ripping my hair out because I didn’t get my lunch already packed and also so I try and stay on the healthy train and don’t make bad choices because they’re so much more convenient (cause they so are!). I mean, of course, I usually throw in a dark chocolate square because it’s necessary 🙂

  • Do you plan ahead for your weeks or is go with the flow through the week?
  • Do you meal prep on the weekends?

Back to Lifting

Happy Tuesday!

So many things I forgot about traditional lifting. Last week I decided I would attempt to start the Live Fit Trainer from Jamie Eason. I had attempted before- but always started and then never kept going with it. (Why I thought starting a program over the summer with two vacations was a good idea- I have no idea..) So I’m one week in and going strong! What I’ve remembered so far.

1. When you haven’t done any traditional lifting in ohhhh like a year- you will be very, very sore.

Although I wasn’t lifting heavy really for the start of this program, the chest and triceps workout made me sore for a good 2 days afterwards. I just did legs yesterday and my hip flexors and quads are so tired walking up 5 stairs makes me have to stop and take a break lol.

2. How much I love to put my headphones in..zone out and rep it!

I forgot how much lifting makes me feel kinda…well, powerful 😉 Add in Metallica Justin Bieber music blasting in my ears and I get into beast mode!

3. Strength is actually my forte.

Strength is something I have naturally (not to toot my own horn AT ALL- just how I’m built). I forget this considering, I tend to dabble in the endurance world with my running and cycling- which is something I have to work HARD to be anywhere decent at. (And long distance running is still a challenge) My body naturally is more powerful than speedy making lifting a good fit for me.

4. I enjoy having a workout already set up for me.

Source

Like a lot. I am not one to ever have a set training plan and blah..blah. I like to make up workouts or circuits at times- but this is nice that someone else has already done that work and I just show up at the gym and do it. No planning ahead- no nothin’.

5. I like that I can feel the work I did for a long time after I’m done my lifting.

Can you say jell-o legs!? and arms..and everything! You can definitely tell you worked out after a solid lifting session!

Now I’m not sure of its a great thing to lift while also training on the bike and such but like I said I don’t follow training plans ever. But I do have some races (duathlons) coming up in September and October! 🙂 more on that later!!!!!

  • Do you lift? or like to lift? What program do you follow?
Do you lift weights while training?
