Last Things Thursday

Here are some of the last things for me this week!

1. Last Song on the iPod:

I used to never listen to Pandora and now I’ve become obsessed! Specifically with Lee Brice Station. Love him.

2. Last workout:

I lifted yesterday arms & abs from the live fit trainer and then did 20 minutes of intervals on the stationary bike.

3. Last amazing food find:

I’ve been dying to have these and my favorite grocery store FINALLY sells them! I was so excited so now I basically add it to everything! It’s definitely been myΒ favorite add in to shakes. It’s awesome in the pudding shakes and great when added to froyo shakes also πŸ™‚

4. Latest hair style

I’m glad after 23 years I’ve finally figured out how to do my hair some other way. I really just taught myself how to french braid this year. Better late than never!

5. Last Meal

Chiliiiiii! and cornbread! Noms…mom makes the best! oh and of course i gotta cover it in cheese! πŸ™‚

Shutting my brain off!

Hi everyone… πŸ™‚ Wednesday woo!

So, I’ve been getting up for my workouts this week no problem! Which I’m very excited about. However, the one thing I am having issues with this week is being absolutely exhausted and ready for bed at 9pm and not being able to turn my brain OFF.

This is making me exhausted! I feel like once I lay down I think about a million things and fidget and it takes me so much longer to fall asleep. I mean, once I’m asleep I’m golden, but relaxing before bed has be TOUGH! I am constantly thinking of the 4 million things I have to do tomorrow. I’m sure many, many of you feel the exact same way. My brain hurts. Seriously.

So because of this I’m sure you’ve noticed I just will not be blogging as much and I’m sure you’re all okay with that haha. I just hate forcing blog posts when I”m tired and cranky and honestly have nothing to talk about. I’d rather write some posts that actually have content (okay..I pretty much always ramble) than some just to write them. Sometimes my only time for myself is at the end of the day, besides at the gym.

Speaking of gym..lifting has been awesome. If I feel confident enough I will update you on my progress πŸ˜‰ The only thing is I don’t have a lot of time to do cardio so I’ve been missing out the past few days! I hate when I don’t get some form of it in. When I do have time I’ve been doing the stair mill on intervals to get the most bang for my buck!

ANYWAYS, back to the main point. I am hoping that my routine settles in soon and I can somehow manage to relax my brain at night time. Meditation perhaps? Yoga?? I would love to find another yoga DVD that is more ‘zen’ like since my Jillian DVD is more of a workout. Although it has to be short so I can hold my concentration ha!

  • Do you have trouble shutting your brain off at night?

Almond Flour Pancakes

Well..please excuse my absence lately…last week definitely got the best of me, from work to practice, to the job at the gym, by Thursday I was just completely exhausted, and Friday was a 14 hour work day, unfortunately. (i’ll stop whining now, promise). On the upside of the exhaustion, my Field hockey team I coach had a night game and had a big win! YAY! (Besides the LATE night).

My job is going well! I’m still really liking everything.. This coming week is the first 5 day week of school..if any of you understand how I act children act by Thursday in school you know how that goes. Friday was one LONG day, haha, but they’re sweet & hilarious. Don’t worry one day I plan on an “Overheard in Kindergarten” post….. Also, if I had a dime for every shoe I’ve tied -I’d be rich.

Fitness wise I didn’t go to the gym every morning last week- one day I apparently had 2 alarms set that I don’t remember turning off and going back to sleep. Oh well- sometimes sleep is a winner over working out if you need it! Another day my dad and I did a bike ride in the morning. This would totally be better if it would get light outside before 6:20am 😦 this means only time for a 40 minute ride…still better than none at all but now that I have actually put miles on my bike (somewhere around 600 miles this year!!…*proud) that feels so short. Reason #4billion I need an indoor trainer.

Yesterday was my first day off in literally 2 weeks and I had an awesome day at playing field hockey! My favorite physical activity of all! My team did okay, we actually didn’t have a goalie so that made things difficult haha but we did score and I scored 2 goals wahoo! … And now I’m sore. So. Sore. Getting in shape for stop and start kind of game is difficult unless you’re playing it all the time! I’ve never felt so out of shape haha ugh. Thank god I’m doing lifting for my back today..everything else would not work!

So between all of that stuff I had time to create an amazing almond flour Pancake recipe! πŸ™‚ My paleo and gluten free friends try it out!

This photo food collage makes me feel like such a foodie blogger! πŸ˜‰

Recipe (adapted from Delighted Momma blog) :

  • 3/4 cup Almond meal
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TBSP Water
  • I packet Stevia or sweetner of choice
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon (or a bit more!)

This made me two nice size pancakes that I topped with a agave nectar and some more cinnamon. These are very delicious if you love almond because it really does taste like almonds (duhhhh, i know). I had these before a bike ride and they were the perfect fuel! I also pondered making a bunch of them and throwing them in the fridge for breakfasts throughout the week! Delish!

  • Would you try these pancakes?

5am alarm- you don’t scare me!

Okay.. maybe a little.Β

But honestly for the first time- It wasn’t that bad.

(Please remind me of this when in the depths of winter and I never want to leave my bed. ever.)

So it was a successful first day at the gym in the am. oh and how i THOUGHT I could get there at 5:45- no we (my parents and I…so cute…love living at home haha…) must LEAVE the house at 5:20. oh. so the alarm is set at good old 5:03 and 5:08…(cause I don’t like to wake up on zero’s or fives), which was a little daunting to say the least.

Although I think being sort of anxious for the day made me wake up quite easily..I already laid out my clothes so I was ready and didn’t have to put too much thought into it. Although at 5:30 at the gym no one will care if you match at the gym…right?

All laid out and ready to go…

Once I got moving out the door I was fine. At the gym I was pretty excited that barely anyone was in it..that means no fighting the macho men to use the lifting equipment. That makes me very happy!

I did a Biceps and back workout from Live Fit week 4 and then got on the elliptical for 10 mins and stairmill for about 5…I would have liked to get more cardio in, but I took a little longer lifting than I thought.

What was seriously awesome about exercising in the AM is the fact that by the time I got home from the gym, I realize that if I stayed in bed I wouldn’t even be up by this time..i actually had time to take a shower, read some blogs that I’ve been neglecting and missed, and get ready for the day. Oh and I actually had time to drink my coffee at home and NOT in a travel mug.

Sayonara travel mug! Wait, JK..I still need you at times.

All the extra time in the morning was quite enjoyable! I love to drink coffee and eat breakfast and watch the news in the morning. When I don’t I feel like I have not idea what’s going on in the world.

The downfall of early morning workouts, you ask?

I basically hit a crash mode sometime between 4-5pm during Field Hockey practice. Hard. I hope this is something that will adjust as I get used to it- but man was it bad then..ugh.

We will see how it all goes again today πŸ™‚

  • Have you ever transferred into morning workouts?
  • Do you hit a “crash wall” during the day like me?

Preparing for the week

I don’t know about you- but I am so, so, so thankful for this extra day this weekend. I totally needed every ounce of this day to get ready for this upcoming week. Last week was just crazy learning my new routine and schedule and all of it without working at the gym because of shut down week for maintenance. Adding that into my week again means planning ahead has now become my best friend.

Have I mentioned before that I’m a go with the flow, laid back, as opposite of Type-A personality, person as you can get? Planning can sometimes be hard for me- but with how my schedule is I have to do it or I’ll probably lose my mind.

First for this month I made a schedule of all my work schedules (that I know of) and practice and game times for Field Hockey. It was seriously time consuming putting together 3 schedules BUT I can now put it all together and actually make sense of it. Sweet.

Organization people! Blue = school job, yellow = Field hockey Red = gym job

So, that was one step in making my weeks easier to follow along with…I’ll also have to make sure I schedule in my times for working out. I’ve decided that since at times I’ll be working at my gym at night I will just stay and do my workouts then. No sense in going in twice when gas prices are the way they are… (ugh).

One last huge thing to me that definitely has to be planned out is for FOOD!Β My most favorite thing…

Sunday has become a major food prep day. I got to the grocery store today and got a ton of fruit to bring…grapes have been super convenient!

I cooked chicken breasts for salads

And got lettuce, carrots and green peppers cut up… and then I bought a lot of peanut butter of course πŸ™‚ oh and hardboiled eggs are a plus!

I’ve been eating a lot at my lunch time because most of the time it has to hold me over until after practice is over. I’m not that upset about eating a ton πŸ™‚

These are thing things that help me get ready for the week…mostly so that I don’t feel like ripping my hair out because I didn’t get my lunch already packed and also so I try and stay on the healthy train and don’t make bad choices because they’re so much more convenient (cause they so are!). I mean, of course, I usually throw in a dark chocolate square because it’s necessary πŸ™‚

  • Do you plan ahead for your weeks or is go with the flow through the week?
  • Do you meal prep on the weekends?
